Over the past few hours, most key government websites have been ‘down’ and users were unable to access them as of 3pm.

It is unknown who is behind the attacks but it is suspected that this is the work of the Anonymous Collective following earlier threats made in a “declaration of war” video.

Many international news media sites such as BBC and Times of India have provided 'The Messiah' with the necessary coverage for more International Anonymous hackers to hear about the plans to take down the Singapore government websites. It is highly likely that it is a DDOS attack where many hackers collaboratively come together to constantly send requests and traffic to a certain website to max out its bandwith such that ordinary users are unable to access them.

Some people will occasionally be able to access the sites but the majority will not be able to connect as the websites get flooded with requests.

The Real Singapore have already contacted 'The Messiah' asking if they were the people behind these attacks.

Here is a list of government websites which have been reported as down so far:

    Prisons.gov.sg
    PMO.gov.sg
    MSF.gov.sg
    SEAB.gov.sg
    SPF.gov.sg
    AVA.gov.sg
    LTA.gov.sg
    ACRA.gov.sg
    IDA.gov.sg
    Singpass.gov.sg
    SGDI.gov.sg
    Careers.gov.sg
    PUB.gov.sg
    GOV.SG
    MHA.gov.sg
    CNB.gov.sg
    ISD.gov.sg
    ICA.gov.sg
    NRF.gov.sg
    CPIB.gov.sg
    WDA.gov.sg
    PSC.gov.sg
    ISTANA.Gov.sg
    SMC.gov.sg
    SCDF.gov.sg
    SLA.gov.sg
    Supremecourt.gov.sg
    NEA.gov.sg
    BCA.gov.sg
    CUSTOMS.gov.sg
    SPRING.gov.sg
    AGC.gov.sg

There are others which have also been affected and some which have intermittent access only.

However, some websites seem to have been spared such as CPF and MinDef.

Over the last few weeks several websites have been defaced by hacker The Messiah with several messages left, but this is the first time that so many government websites have been inaccessible at the same time.

IDA posted to it's facebook page (2 hours after most gov website went down) that all Government Websites are currently going under "planned maintenance" and that they will be back up soon:

"Dear all, government websites are under planned maintenance and will be back ASAP."

What is curious is that there was no prior mention of the maintenance and this status was updated from a mobile device. Furthermore, some Singaporeans have been able to access some of the websites that are supposedly "under maintenance".

It certainly looks more like a DDOS attack that IDA is trying to cover up to "save face".

Update 5:30pm:

The Singapore Police Spokesperson told AsiaOne that they are aware of the situation and are currently investigating this issue. The question is, why are the police investigating a "planned maintenance"?

Update 6:00pm:

The Messiah said that they are not the hackers responsible for bringing down the government websites in Singapore. He suggested that there are many other international anon hackers that are gaining interest in the Singapore government.

Meanwhile, some of the government websites are back up online already.

1,Dear IDA, for unplanned "planned maintenance" ... Thank you for the joke ... you are the joke!

2,"Such planned maintenance is usually undertaken during the weekends and public holidays due to low expected website traffic." 'Planned' but announced last minute via mobile? why not do your maintenance at 0000hrs?

3,Probably working to avert threats - salute to those hardworking people who stand guard at the electronic gates of Singapore while we enjoy our weekend + holiday. God bless you all!

4,technical difficulties part of the plan?
