2K Announces Mafia III Coming in 2016
2K today officially revealed Mafia III, the next installment in the popular series known for immersing players into a world of organized crime through rich narrative storytelling and beautifully crafted game worlds. Mafia III is being developed by Hangar 13, a new development studio under the 2K publishing label led by veteran game developer Haden Blackman. Mafia III will be available in calendar 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system and Windows PC.
“Mafia III continues the strong franchise tradition of a captivating story set in the treacherous and calculated world of organized crime,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Mafia III captures Hangar 13’s mantra of ‘every player story is unique’ through a cinematic narrative that responds to player choice.”
Mafia III is set in a reimagined New Orleans in 1968, one of the most tumultuous years in American history. This version of New Orleans is bustling with activity, complete with era-inspired cars, fashion and music. During this turbulent time, a cloud of corruption hangs in the air and the city has become a haven for organized crime. The Italian mob controls illegal gambling, drugs, and prostitution, while corrupt police and politicians line their pockets with the proceeds.
Mafia III follows the story of Lincoln Clay, a disenfranchised Vietnam veteran, returning from combat and looking for a home and a place to belong. Orphaned as a child, Lincoln at last achieves a semblance of family with the city’s black mob, finding the surrogate father and brother he has longed for. But when Lincoln’s new family is betrayed and slaughtered by the Italian mob, he becomes fixated on revenge and wages a brutal war against the Italians, disrupting the balance of power in the seedy underworld of New Orleans. As the story progresses, Lincoln allies himself with other criminals and builds an empire and a new family of his own that transforms the city.
Throughout the riveting story of Mafia III, players choose their path to revenge and build their own crime empire using cunning, stalking and deception, or through overwhelming force and firepower. Mafia III combines the best of cinematic storytelling with a dynamic narrative structure that responds to player choices, set in a vibrant city that responds to Lincoln’s actions.

Mafia developer to close down Prague office as 2K Czech begins restructuring
2K Czech restructuring, Mafia 3 moving to US?
Update: 2K UK has responded, confirming the below report.
"We have relocated and consolidated our 2K Czech team from our Prague facility to centralise resources in our location in Brno. Additionally, we are transferring some development resources from Prague and Brno to 2K headquarters in Novato, CA," said 2K in a statement sent to Eurogamer.
"This transition will both strengthen the integration of the 2K Czech team with our award winning development teams, and better align cross-functional business practices. As part of this realignment, we are adjusting our staffing levels, resulting in the elimination of some positions."

The main Prague office, where Mafia 3 is suspected to be in development, is apparently to be closed, shedding staff to office-number-two in the city of Brno, where Mafia 2 was made. There will also be some lay-offs.
2K Prague is expected to close within a few months.
10 key developers from 2K Czech are also said to have been relocated to 2K's main office in Novato, California (it's not clear if this is the team BioShock Infinite 'closer' Rod Fergusson is leading). Why, though - is Mafia 3 development moving continents?
We heard in August 2012 that Mafia 3 was heading to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and was originally intended as a launch title. Lay-offs prevented 2K Czech fulfilling that schedule, but it suggests work on the game must already be far along.

Now, like you, we are all gamers here at 2K. We know what it feels like to finish a game and want more – more story, more locations, more action. So, now that we’re doing some final polishing up on Mafia III before the October 7 launch, we’re starting work on new story expansions. These are wholly separate experiences that reveal more about Lincoln Clay’s time in New Bordeaux. As these stories will reveal, the Italian Mafia isn’t the only threat Lincoln faces...

A string of ritualistic killings has New Bordeaux on the edge of terror. At Father James’ request, Lincoln agrees to hunt down the cult responsible, a quest that will take him from the dark heart of the old bayou to the drug-ridden counterculture of the inner city.
“Stones Unturned”
When a merciless rival resurfaces in New Bordeaux, Lincoln must join forces with CIA agent John Donovan to settle a blood feud that began in the war-torn jungles of Vietnam.
Along with new story and character additions to New Bordeaux you’ll find new activities to engage in to expand and diversify your criminal empire. And, yes, these paid expansions will also offer exclusive vehicles, weapons, outfits and races based upon their themes.
If you buy the Season Pass, either on its own or through the Deluxe or Collector’s Editions of Mafia III, you’ll get access to these three new story expansions and all the weapons, vehicles and gameplay that comes with ‘em. If you don’t feel like buying a Season Pass, that’s ok, too, because each one of these stories will be available for sale individually.

Update [10/6 / 6PM PT]: We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III. We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!

Ever since we welcomed you to the streets of New Bordeaux in October, we promised more killer content for Mafia III. You’ve asked about what’s coming next – and when. Today, we’re giving you more information about the DLC story expansions for Mafia III, as well as a tease into what you’re going to see in our first expansion, “Faster, Baby!”
First, though, here’s a quick look at what we’ve done so far – and a glance at what’s coming next. Keep in mind that this is a targeted timeline, but dates may shift slightly in content development. If that happens, we’ll let you know.
Pais story expansion content update
For all our fans out there dying to head back to the bayou, we’ve got more paid story content coming your way. This is what your Season Pass covers – three major paid expansions delivering the next chapters in the Mafia III crime drama, plus more locations, action and rewards to Mafia III.
Ever since the team wrapped production for the game’s launch, we’ve been hard at work expanding the world of New Bordeaux. So, with that, here’s what you can look forward to in 2017. As we said above, keep in mind that precise dates may shift.
“Faster, Baby!” (End of March 2017)
Fast cars, dramatic chases, and epic stunt driving take center stage as Lincoln joins forces with Roxy Laveau, a sister-in-arms out to take down a corrupt Sheriff terrorizing Civil Rights activists on the outskirts of New Bordeaux.
“Stones Unturned” (May 2017)
When a merciless rival resurfaces in New Bordeaux, Lincoln must join forces with CIA agent John Donovan to settle a blood feud that began in the war-torn jungles of Vietnam.
“Sign of the Times” (July 2017)
A string of ritualistic killings has New Bordeaux on the edge of terror. At Father James’ request, Lincoln agrees to hunt down the cult responsible, a quest that will take him from the dark heart of the old bayou to the drug-ridden counterculture of the inner city.
All three of these story expansions will deliver tight, focused, and compelling narratives, while also introducing new gameplay mechanics, activities, environments and rewards.
3 things you need to know about “Faster, Baby!”
We recently chatted with Hangar 13’s Narrative Director, Bill Harms, about Mafia III’s upcoming DLC. We’ll be revealing all of the details on “Faster, Baby!” in the coming weeks, but here’s three things to keep in mind:
1. We listened to you, our fans, and we’re delivering another killer story. This tightly-told tale gets you right into the action and doesn’t stop. As Bill Harms says himself:
Harms: “We were really humbled by the response to the characters and the story in Mafia III, so we wanted to double-down on that as much as possible, while also providing players with different gameplay experiences. Mafia III focuses on the systematic destruction of Sal Marcano's empire, racket-by-racket, while all of the expansions tell direct, linear stories."
2. We’re introducing you to a whole new part of New Bordeaux you’ve never seen before.
3. This story expansion features intense action, highlighted by thrilling stunt driving and high octane car chases in the bayou!
In the coming weeks, we’ll be revealing much more on “Faster, Baby!” including its incredible new environment, strong female lead, new gameplay mechanics and activities, and of course, the DLC story expansion’s power-crazed antagonist. A free demo for Mafia III is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, publisher 2K Games announced.
The demo introduces players to the criminal underworld of 1968 New Bordeaux and the motivations for Lincoln Clay’s pursuit of revenge against the Italian Mafia. Save data from the demo will carry over to the full game, if you decide to purchase it.

2K and Hangar 13 Expand Global Development Team with New Location in Brighton, UK
2K and Hangar 13 – the critically acclaimed storytellers and developer of Mafia III – today announced the expansion of Hangar 13 in Brighton, United Kingdom, furthering the studio’s efforts to tap into the world’s most talented development pools and build a globally diverse team. This new office will be headed by UK game development veteran Nick Baynes, and will collaborate with the teams in Novato, CA and Czech Republic across all aspects of development on all future Hangar 13 projects.
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Nick and the Brighton team into our growing Hangar 13 family,” said Haden Blackman, global studio head of Hangar 13. “The new office allows us to tap into the rich game development talent pool throughout the United Kingdom and Europe and will lead to better, more diverse games that resonate with the widest possible audience.”
Baynes, general manager of the Brighton office, brings 25-years of game development and studio management experience to Hangar 13. Many of those years were spent at Black Rock Studio as the game director on Split/Second, working alongside other colleagues who have since joined Hangar 13, including Novato-based Vice President of Development, Andy Wilson. As a resident of Brighton for more than 17 years, Baynes is intimately familiar with the game development scene in the South East UK and will bring that knowledge to bear as he begins recruiting for the new office.
