Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe and Witchcraft announce a brand-new adventure/tactical RPG for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC Digital - Digimon Survive.
Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Digimon Anime, Digimon Survive presents a brand-new adventure set in a mysterious world with characters designed by Uichi Ukumo, and music by the much-acclaimed Tomoki Miyoshi.
Digimon Survive sees a brand-new group of teenagers, led by Takuma Momozuka, get lost on a school camping trip, finding them transported to a strange new world of monsters and danger.
As they fight their way back home through an animated world of difficult decisions and deadly battles, players’ choices throughout the game will impact the evolution of their monster allies, and the final ending. Battles in the game are fought in 2D, in a more classic SRPG style.
Further information about the game will be revealed soon.
Digimon Survive will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has a new interview with Digimon Survive producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki and chief producer Kazumasa Habu, who reconfirms that development on a new Digimon Story title is underway after first confirming it in December 2017.
Get the tidbits below.
• A new Digimon Story is currently in development, but development still has some time to go. For that reason, Digimon Survive is being made as new Digimon content to be offered before that. We would be happy if it can turn into the third series of Digimon games. (Editor’s Note: The other two series are Digimon World and Digimon Story.)
• In Digimon Survive, characters could die depending on your choices. Story developments will occur that could not easily be done in the anime.
• While this doesn’t mean that there are ton of branched endings, there are scenario branches that occur during the story based on an accumulation of detailed choices made by the player.
• Currently, the story is divided into three routes. We’re thinking it would be nice to also include a bonus route.
• Even during battles, the status of enemies and allies, as well as victory conditions will change depending on the choices you make.
Digivolutions will also change depending on scenario choices.
• There are a total of 100 Digimon, plus extras. Rather than place importance of the number of Digimon, we’re choosing Digimon that match the atmosphere of the world.
• We would like to continue to expand the world of game-original Digimon in the future.
• Development is currently 30 percent complete.

■ Story
“A boy, attending camp together with friends, is invited on an unexpected adventure!”
Takuma Momotsuka is a soon-to-be second-year middle school student who attends a historical studies extracurricular activities camp where students from several schools group up during spring break.
On the second day of camp, Takuma, his friend Minoru Hinata, and Aoi Shibuya, a one year-older upperclassman from a different school, visit a shrine where a festival surrounding the local “Beast Gods” will be held.
Takuma, who joined up with his camp friends and kids from his hometown on the way there, encounters a mysterious monster named Koromon while exploring the shrine.
Immediately following, they hear a scream from nearby and run in that direction to find more of their friends attacked by different monsters.
Upon realizing he has to save everyone, Koromon evolves into Agumon to fight the monsters.
With the help of Agumon, Takuma managed to repel the monsters, but he soon realized that the surrounding area was covered in fog and he had gotten lost in an unknown world…
A second-year middle school student who comes from an extremely ordinary household. When he participates in a historical studies extracurricular activities camp and visits a shrine with a legend of mysterious disappearances, he suddenly finds himself lost in another world.
Agumon
A reptile-type monster similar to a small dinosaur. He encounters Takuma when he gets lost in a strange world. He will evolve into various forms based on Takuma’s influence.
◆ Aoi and Labramon
Aoi Shibuya
A third-year from another middle school participating in the extracurricular activities camp. She is a hard worker who does her best to deal with the unreasonable demands and complaints of her peers. She is usually quiet, rarely speaking. In the unknown world, she undertakes detailed work such as food management and base management, and she does it well.
Labramon
A beast-type monster similar to an actual dog. In contrast to the reserved Aoi, Labramon speaks directly. She and Aoi balance each other out and support one another in this unknown world.
◆ Minoru and Falcomon
Minoru Hinata
Takuma’s close friend and classmate, who participates in the extracurricular activities camp with him. He is an optimistic type who talks and jokes a lot. He is easygoing and can open up to anyone, but can also be unreliable in that he gets carried away and invites trouble. He does not like fighting with others, and tries to joke around to get a laugh as not to bump heads with anyone or anything.
Falcomon
A bird-type monster that lives high in the mountains. In contrast to the easily carried away Minoru, Falcomon is level-headed and will support Minoru on his adventure in this strange world. However, he can sometimes act wild to the point that Minoru has to stop him….

Famitsu has published a lengthier, more detailed version of its interview with Digimon game series producer Kazumasa Habu that first appeared in Weekly Famitsu earlier this month. The detailed interview confirms the new Digimon Story Habu confirmed is being developed with PlayStation 4 as its base.
Here are the snippets:
Habu on where Digimon Survive stands within the Digimon game series…
“A new Digimon Story is also in development with PlayStation 4 as its base, but development is going to take a bit of time. With things like current hardware specifications and support for a worldwide release, development on a single title has become extremely time consuming. Then we would have a situation where there are no developments at all next year or the year after next. If too much time without new content passes, most people will lose interest. So I’d like to continue releasing games with Digimon characters and keep a hold on our fans as not to let that happen. First, we’re offering Digimon Survive as all-new content. Digimon is of course not only popular through its initial virtual pet toy, the popularity of its characters expanded as the TV anime aired. If you include fans who got into the series from there, the series has quite a following from core fans to light fans. So we’re preparing this new title with an original world to be enjoyed by the fans that are constantly following Digimon in addition to players who may not have gone near the series in a while, or who may not know of it at all to play and enjoy. I’m hoping that doing so allows us to embrace a wide range of fans and turn this game into a new core series.”
Habu on the future of Digimon games…
“In the future, I hope to the games will continue to expand the world of Digimon in their own way. Digimon has become a title with many series such as anime and toys, and is very complex. So it might be difficult for new people to get into, but in the world of games, even players who don’t know of Digimon can come to know of and enjoy it through the game. Those are the types of games I’d like to deliver. Also, while it might be too early to discuss, I also hope to think about a Digimon game that utilizes online. However, as games become more complex, the threshold only gets higher, and I personally want to value the game nature and ease of play that even light players can enjoy. Of course, I also want to keep the focus on making the presentation, characters, and world more fascinating.”
Digimon Survive is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in 2019. In Japan, it will only be released for PlayStation 4 and Switch.
