New Fear Effect announced, developed by Sushee, Kickstarter next week
New Fear Effect announced
A new Fear Effect game is set to take to Kickstarter - with Square Enix's blessing.
But this new Fear Effect won't be a big budget affair - as Fear Effect on PSone was. Instead, it'll be an indie game from a little-known studio that's using crowdfunding to raise development cash.
French studio Sushee worked with Square Enix's The Collective two years ago on adventure game Goetia. After the publisher signalled it was open to pitches for new games set in its back catalogue of dormant franchises, it worked on a Fear Effect prototype heavily influenced by Shadowrun Returns. Square Enix liked the pitch and gave the thumbs up to a Kickstarter for Fear Effect Sedna, which is set to launch Tuesday, 12th April.
Sushee founder Benjamin Anseaume told Eurogamer Fear Effect fans should expect a very different game than the Kronos-developed, Eidos-published originals that appeared on the PSone.
"So players have to expect major changes both in terms of the gameplay and the visuals. We are a small team of 10 people. We are not Kronos. We are an indie team. We want to make something that respects the series, but it's not going to be Fear Effect 3. It's going to be a new Fear Effect with new gameplay."
Sushee was inspired by Harebrained Schemes' superb turn-based tactical role-playing game Shadowrun Returns when designing the gameplay for the new Fear Effect. An isometric camera perspective will let the player control up to five characters at the same time, with a focus on strategy when it comes to the combat. The idea is the characters work together, combining their attacks and defensive actions for maximum effect.
As for the story, Sushee's Fear Effect is not a reboot. Rather, it is a sequel to the second and unreleased third game. The story for Fear Effect 3 was almost completed before the game was cancelled, and Square Enix granted Sushee access to it as well as an old prototype.
Fear Effect's four main characters: Hana, Rain Qin, Royce Glas and Jacob "Deke" DeCourt, will all appear in the new Fear Effect, alongside new characters Sushee has developed. The story takes place four years after Fear Effect 3, which would have seen Hana return from hell after dying. At the end of the unreleased Fear Effect 3, Hana is free from her Triad overlords. So in this new Fear Effect, she works as a mercenary.
If the Kickstarter, which targets Euro100,000, is successful, Sushee hopes the new Fear Effect will launch on PC mid 2017. Console versions are a stretch goal.
Severed Releasing April 26, New Gameplay Trailer ~ PS Vita
Severed, from the team behind Guacamelee, hits PS Vita this month
Hi everyone! This is Graham from Drinkbox Studios, creators of Tales from Space: About a Blob, Mutant Blobs Attack, and Guacamelee!.
We’ve been hard at work on Severed for the past two years, and we’re excited to announce that the game will be released on PlayStation Vita on 26th April. PS Plus members can also expect a 10% discount during the launch week.
The long road...
If you haven’t heard of Severed before, here’s a quick rundown: Severed is a first-person dungeon crawling adventure where you equip the carcasses of your enemies to gain their powers. You play as Sasha, a warrior who wakes up in a surreal fantasy world and sets off on a mission to find the missing members of her family.
Fighting enemies in Severed can be... disarming?
Severed was initially planned as a Spring 2015 release, but after showing an early demo of the game at PlayStation Experience in December 2014, we became inspired with a ton of new ideas and decided there was a lot more we wanted to add. It only took a whole extra year, but we’ve finally finished packing in as much as we could into Severed and we’re really happy with how it has turned out.
Original soundtrack available now
While Severed is still a few weeks away from release, the original soundtrack for the game is available for streaming and download today, right here. Composed by the Juno-nominated band YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN and special guests Pantayo, the intense progressive rock music in Severed’s OST gives a good sense of the unique atmosphere you can expect to find in Sasha’s adventure.
We’re huge fans of PlayStation Vita, and are really excited to finally get it into the hands of PS Vita owners. Hope you all love the game as much as we enjoyed making it!

Stealth-action game Shadwen emerges from the shadows in May!
Finnish game developer Frozenbyte is happy to announce a May release date for its upcoming stealth-action game Shadwen .
Shadwen will launch at a spectacularly low launch discount price of $14.55 on PC, following a "demo event" campaign where gamers from all over the world were able to play a sneak-peek beta demo and lower the price by doing so. The starting price was $35 but over 20.000 downloads, 3.5 million points, and over 100.000 killed guards dropped the price to $14.55 (with a launch discount applied).
The initial launch platforms are PC and PlayStation 4. The final launch price of the game will vary slightly based on platforms and stores and their pricing policies. On PC it will be $14.55 or less in the most prominent stores.
About Shadwen
Shadwen is a stealth-action game where the only rule is to remain unseen. Stay hidden - or the ruthless guards will kill you on sight!
Shadwen, an assassin on a quest to kill the king, has a chance encounter with an orphaned girl, Lily. She follows Shadwen on her dangerous journey, but when the ruthless guards get too close, Shadwen must take action right in front of Lily's eyes.
Will Shadwen risk the girl's budding trust by resorting to violence, or try and find another way while keeping her real purpose concealed?
To kill or not to kill - that is the question.

Funcom to Launch 'The Park' on PS4 & Xbox One May 3rd
Funcom is excited to announce that the company's latest game, 'The Park', will be available to horror fans around the world on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next month, on May 3rd. 'The Park' will be Funcom's first console release since 'Dreamfall: The Longest Journey' in 2006.
"We are thrilled to develop games for consoles again," says Funcom CEO Rui Casais. "Not only because 'The Park' is a great fit for console gaming, but the process has also given us a lot of experience which we can use for some of our upcoming games, like 'Conan Exiles'."
'The Park' first served its ice cold chills when it launched on PC during Halloween last year. It quickly became a favorite among streamers, and in the weeks following its release it generated more than 10 million views on various Let's Play videos on YouTube.
In 'The Park' players step into the shoes of Lorraine, a mother whose son goes missing at the Atlantic Island Park. Here players must explore the dilapidated amusement park and face panic and paranoia as they progress unravel Lorraine's story and the history of the park itself. Focusing entirely on intense storytelling and exploration instead of combat and action, 'The Park' draws inspiration from other first-person exploration games such as 'Gone Home', 'Dear Esther' and 'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter'.
