About Zanki Zero: Last Beginning
From producer Yoshinori Terasawa and game designer Takayuki Sugawara, the creators of the Danganronpa series, comes a new kind of survival game, Zanki Zero: Last Beginning. Explore the ruins, dungeons, and islands in this post-apocalyptic world through the perspectives of eight protagonists as they fight for survival and search for meaning in their never-ending cycles of life and death.
Story
God created the world in seven days. It only took one day for humans to destroy the world. Life as we knew it sank to the depths of the sea…until yesterday. We do not yet know the broken world and the reasons left behind there. An earth where ruins drift about. Buildings, houses, light posts. Cars, traffic lights, asphalt… Modern civilization was destroyed, becoming nothing more than debris wading in the sea. New ruins drift one after the other before the protagonist, who lives on one of those decaying islands.
Key Features
Eight Clones, Seven Deadly Sins, Infinite Lives – Play from the perspectives of one of eight protagonists in each chapter and explore the dungeons, towers, and islands to uncover the deadly sins of the protagonists’ past.
Survival of the Fittest – Hunt for materials and food while fending off monsters in real-time battle environments, but don’t forget to sleep, eat, and go to the bathroom (seriously, it’s bad for your health and fatal for your party).
Live, Die, Repeat – With only 13 days in one life cycle, each clone’s stats, abilities, and capabilities differ from youth to old age. Depending on how you die, you can even earn bonus upgrades for your next life cycle. Take advantage of each life cycle to the fullest!
Spike Chunsoft will host a Game Developers Conference 2018 presentation tonight at 5:00 p.m. PT / 8:00 p.m. ET, which will be live streamed on Twitch and feature an exclusive look at Zanki Zero: Last Beginning with Danganronpa series producer Yoshinori Terasawa.

Zanki Zero details clones, Extend TV, survival, and ruins exploration
Spike Chunsoft has released new information on Zanki Zero: Last Begining, its upcoming survival dungeon RPG, detailing the game’s clones, Extend TV, survival, and ruins exploration.
Get the details below.
The Eight Main Characters Are All Clones
The last eight survivors of humanity, who make up the main characters of Zanki Zero, are all clones. Their lifespan is only 13 days. Over a span of two weeks, they quickly grow, weaken, and die, and are reborn again. Additionally, in the process of surviving their harsh world, they may die before the end of their lifespan by means of various dangers.
—In order to be reborn into a new body, you use an arcade game machine-like “Extend Machine.” With this machine, you can create new clones by spending the “Score” you acquire through exploration of ruins.
—The bodies of reborn clones return to their child form, but things such as memories, personality, and acquired skills from their former life carry over, so they are not without experience. “Die and become stronger.” Clone-unique game systems will be further detailed in the future.
Extend TV Guides the Player
In the garage on the island where the eight main characters live, there is an old television where you can watch a program called “Extend TV.” It is hosted by Mirai, a cute and herbivorous mascot character. Her assistant is the funny man Sho Terashima, who acts completely without restraint. The pair’s conversations will act as a reliable guide in the eight clones’ survival.
Self-Sufficient Survival in a World Where Civilization Has Collapsed
The eight main characters will live a self-sufficient survival life on an island where there is only rubble and ruins. Characters have parameters such as vitality, stamina, stress, and bowel movements, and since worsening of those parameters is connected to potential life crisis, it is necessary to build up the facilities of the base island and create a better environment for daily living.
Ruins Exploration in Real Time
Players will explore various ruins that drift ashore the base island. While achieving the missions imposed by “Extend TV” is a major objective, there are various other reasons for challenging the ruins outside of that, such as securing materials and food, and earning Score to Extend (regenerate) dead friends. Ruins exploration progresses in real-time, and battles against enemy creatures incorporate action elements through the combination of movement and attack buttons.

Zanki Zero details Shigabane, skills, and base camp systems
Spike Chunsoft has updated the official Japanese website for Zanki Zero: Last Beginning with new information on the game’s “Shigabane,” skills, and base camp systems.
Get the details below.
Shigabane
Clones have a feature called “Shigabane” that grants resistance to their newly Extended bodies depending on the cause and circumstances of their death. Through this Shigabane effect (Shigabane Bonus), cloned humans become strong enough to be reborn.
For example, if you die by the attack of a wild animal, the damage your next body receives from that animal will be reduced. Or if you die by poison, your next body will become less susceptible to poison.
There are also Shigabane applied depending on the circumstances at the time of death, including non-direct causes of death such as “dying by accumulating too much stress” or “dying at an impasse.” Through various types of deaths and repeated ed Extends, cloned humans will gradually become less likely to die, able to explore the ruins even further, and fight against more dangerous enemies.
Skills
The main characters can learn skills by using the skill points acquired when leveling up. The skills that can be learned differ per character, but are mainly divided into three categories—battle, exploration, and crafting. There are also skills for each age group, such as those whose effects are only displayed in childhood.
The skills you learn will not be lost if you die, as they are carried over into your next body after an Extend. Leveling up does not increase your stats, as each age has fixed stats, so character development is done via Shigabane Bonuses and skill acquisition.
Base Camp
By securing materials and expanding the base, you will be able to use new facilities at the base camp. “Reformer Skills” are required in addition to materials in order to expand the base.
By building a workshop, you will be able to manufacture weapons and armor, as well as enhance them. The more you upgrade your facilities, the more powerful the equipment you can produce.
If you build a kitchen, you can cook ingredients. Cooking ingredients increases both their recovery effect and safety, as well as reduces their weight as items.
