Switch paid online service delayed to 2018, costs $20 a year and includes online-enabled classic game library

Nintendo has delayed the launch of the paid online service for Switch from its previously planned fall launch to 2018.

Additionally, the company announced that paid online subscribers will now get access to a “Classic Game Selection”—“a compilation of classic titles with added online play, such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight, and Dr. Mario—rather than a single Virtual Console game as previously announced.

Speaking to Kotaku, Nintendo said users will be able to download and play as many of the games in the classic library as they want as often as they like, as long as they have an active subscription. Speaking to IGN, Nintendo said the library will include NES games at launch, and that Super NES games are under consideration, but that there is nothing to announce at this time.

In addition to online gameplay access and the classic game library, the paid online service for Switch also includes access to the online lobby and voice chat smartphone app and Nintendo eShop deals.

Until the paid service launches in 2018, online gameplay will remain free. When the service does launch, pricing will be as follows:

One-month Membership – $3.99
Three-month Membership – $7.99
12-Month Membership – $19.99

More information about Nintendo’s online service will be announced “later this year.”

Indivisible Coming to Switch

   

Indivisible Coming to Nintendo Switch!

From the moment the Nintendo Switch was announced, many of you began asking if Indivisible would be coming to the system. And even before that, many had asked about seeing a Lab Zero title on a Nintendo platform.

At long last, I’m happy to say that Indivisible will be coming to the Nintendo Switch simultaneously with the other releases in 2018!

This will be Lab Zero’s first foray into Nintendo development, and we couldn’t be more excited! Platformers and RPGs are great to play on the go, and seeing that Indivisible is both, we think it’s a great fit for the system. It will look absolutely beautiful on the Switch’s screen, to boot!

Don’t worry, though – in order to make this happen, Lab Zero received additional funding from 505 Games and hired a programmer to help with the port so it doesn’t take away resources or slow down the rest of development.

While we don’t have anything running on Switch hardware yet, the new programmer is already hard at work laying the groundwork for the Switch version. He’s currently porting the game’s renderer to OpenGL, which will also complete much of the port work for the Mac and Linux versions, as well.

We’ll have more information on the Switch version as it develops, but needless to say, we’re very excited.

Now that the game is coming to Nintendo Switch, no doubt our illustrious backers are wondering “How do I get the Switch version?”

Pokken Tournament DX announced for Switch

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have announced Pokken Tournament DX for Switch. It will launch worldwide on September 22.

The Switch version of the Pokemon fighting game includes all 16 characters from the Wii U version, as well as arcade additions Darkrai, Scizor, Croagunk, and Empoleon, and Pokemon Sun and Moon Pokemon Decidueye.

Pokemon is making its way to Nintendo Switch later this year with Pokken Tournament DX. Nintendo has added Pokken Tournament DX to its E3 2017 lineup. In addition to the previously announced Arms and Splatoon 2 tournaments, Nintendo will host a Pokken Tournament DX tournament on June 14 at 10:30 a.m. PT. Here are the details:

Date: Wednesday, June 14

Competitors: Eight YouTube and Twitch stars
Format: Crew battle with four teams and two players per team. Random draft order. The first person in each crew must choose one of the new characters; the other person can choose one of the original characters.
Prize: Winners will each receive a Pokken Tournament DX art piece signed by Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokemon Company, and members of the development team.
