Gai Targets Extended Stay
Gai Assulin has targeted an extended stay at the Amex Stadium and hopes to impress boss Gus Poyet during his one-month loan deal.
The Israel international - who graduated through the famous academy at Barcelona - signed a loan deal along with Abdul Razak from Manchester City last week and sees the opportunity as a chance to impress.
"This move was a surprise and I did not expect to be here, but I am really happy and I hope to do well and help the team, as much as I can.
"It's a short time but I will do my best. It's only a month and an extension depends on my performances in training and in matches and then it will be down to the club and the manager to decide what happens. I can't affect the decision other than doing my best.
"I was at Barcelona for seven years and had a really good time, but it's over now and I have got to focus on Brighton. I played in the Spanish Cup for the first team and also in England against Tottenham and others but that's in the past.
"It was a good experience and I learnt so much about the game which will help me in the future, but I am not there anymore and I have got to focus on where I am and do the best for the team."
The 20-year-old midfielder - who is the youngest player to represent Israel at 16 years of age - admitted that Brighton & Hove Albion is a perfect fit for him with the style of football.
"I heard that this team plays very good football and that it's a very nice place with a really good crowd, so I'm happy with that. I'm the kind of player that likes to be on the ball and to create so this is perfect for me.
"I spoke with Gus about everything before coming here and I'm happy because I know it's the right club for me. I just need to play and I need to enjoy it so this is a good opportunity for me.
"I have been lucky enough to learn from some very good players and hopefully that will show. I always watched what David Silva did when I was training at Man City. Whatever he does with every move on the pitch or in training, I try to learn from him."
