Nikkei: Nintendo's NX platform will use an Android OS

The Nikkei put up an editorial earlier today about Nintendo's partnership with DeNA. It's a pretty long article (and you need an account to read most of it), but most of it is about historical connections and basically an overview on the relationship.

The interesting part is that the article starts by discussing Nintendo's next platform - the one Iwata codenamed NX. They have an insider source who claims that the OS for the platform will be Android based, and that it is a paradigm shift for Nintendo business-wise. The source goes on to say that when third parties abandoned Nintendo's WiiU one by one, it caused turning point in the company. So while they have had a philosophy of developing their own software and hardware concepts internally for all these years, they are now prepared to embrace a more open platform with Android, to allow developers more flexibility in making content that can also be on smartphones and tablets.

Please do not assume that the NX is an Ouya or a Smartphone. None of those things are implied. This is merely about the software architecture of the operating system.

　　在日本京都市南区上鸟羽的任天堂本社附近，有一栋去年 6 月完工的开发大楼，据说今年 3 月由社长岩田聪亲口证实的新游戏机 - 开发代号「NX」的试验机目前就在此处制作中。 虽然任天堂仅表示「这是一台全新概念的游戏专用机」，并透露即将在 2016 年发表更多细节，但截至目前为止也没有公开说明这到底是一台掌上型主机还是家用主机。 不过根据日经的报导，来自日本某位内部人士的消息透露了「NX 的操作系统会往搭载 Android 的方向开发」。

为了拉拢游戏厂商 任天堂即将面对历史的一大转变？！

　　该消息来源表示：「这是任天堂历史的一大转变」。 自从任天堂在 1983 年于日本推出首台正统家用游戏机「Family Computer」以来，总共开发了 9 种游戏机，而且彻底地执行「只使用自家开发的资源与技术」这项理念。 任天堂一直以来从核心的半导体、记忆媒体以及跟操作系统，都是使用自家独自的规格。

　　1994 年，当 SONY 推出游戏主机「PlayStation」，并采用广泛被一般民众使用的 CD-ROM 时，当时任天堂的社长山内溥表示「这样一来读取速度太慢了」，所以继续坚持并使用任天堂自行研发的游戏卡匣。

　　日经的消息来源指出，一旦任天堂采用 Android 系统的话，预计将会带来一大冲击！ 因为只要采用目前已普及至全世界的操作系统，就可快速地让各路游戏开发者加入任天堂的阵营。

　　促成这项「大转变」的第一原因，就是所有游戏厂商像是海水退潮一般远离任天堂这点而导致的结果。 任天堂在 2012 年发售的家用游戏机「WiiU」，主打了平板控制器与电视画面的双屏幕，是款具有新创意的产品。 不过相对的，与其他公司的游戏主机就没有互操作性，就算厂商投入高额开发费用来制作游戏软件，也因为只能在一台游戏机上发售，而造成资金回收上的困难。

　　然而曾是 WiiU 唯一大作的游戏，第三厂 SQUARE ENIX 所发行的《勇者斗恶龙》，据说接下来的作品很有可能都会在 PS4 上发售，然而此消息一出马上引起了日本玩家的关注，对此 SQUARE ENIX 也随即对外澄清报导这边指的其实是 PS4／PS3／PSVita 游戏软件《勇者斗恶龙 英雄集结 2》（暂称）。

　　根据日本游戏杂志「法米通」的调查，WiiU 游戏在日本国内销售总数前 10 名排名中，有 8 款游戏是任天堂自家的游戏，显露出缺乏第三方游戏厂商的支持，只能依靠自家游戏苦撑的窘境。 此外根据美林证券 Merrill Lynch 的调查，2004 年所发售的热门掌机「NDS」中，第三厂的游戏比率占了 70%，但在 2011 年发售的后继机「3DS」却降为 30%，这些原因都可能是促成任天堂在下一台主机上采用 Android 系统的理由。


加入智能型手机的「革命」浪潮

　　其实推了岩田聪一把的「压力」还有另外一个！ 岩田聪先前曾在任天堂经营方针说明会上许下了「下期营业利益会达到 1000 亿日圆」这样的承诺。 不过在该年的年末商战中 WiiU 的成绩却不慎理想的，远远不及 2014 年 3 月期的贩卖台数目标「900 万台」，只停在 272 万台。

　　尽管在宣传广告上投入了大量资金，但在当时任天堂已不得不面对连续 3 期经营亏损的状况。 游戏市场中充满了「岩田没有达到承诺」、「还想继续当社长吗」的声音。 刚好在这个时候，保有任天堂股份的外资系投资基金会有了动作，他们在2014 年 6 月底的股东大会上积极地展开游说，使得任天堂内部出现了这样的声音「打算推荒川为下期社长，届时请投赞成票」。

　　荒川实就是前社长山内的女婿，跟山内一样是京都出身，荒川在 1980 年代被山内提拔，也是让任天堂游戏《大金刚》在美国热卖的主要功臣。 但他早已在 2002 年退休，目前定居在夏威夷。

　　外资系投资基金会看到陷入连续亏损的任天堂，就计划要将经营权交还给先前为公司打出一片江山的荒川实。 虽然最终没有达成目标，革命的事实也没有正式浮出台面，但这却是今年 3 月任天堂与智能型手机游戏厂商「DeNA」合作的重要原因，因为投资基金会的要求就是要任天堂加入长年拒绝进入的智能型手机游戏市场。

　　「岩田聪不是说过不做智能型手机游戏吗？ 」任天堂忽然改变的方针让许多业界人士感到困惑。 确实，任天堂至今都抱持着不加入智能型手机游戏市场的态度，就如前述所说， 任天堂所使用的操作系统以及机器都采用了公司特制的规格，这些是任天堂的坚持，也是为了守护其经营已久的游戏生态系。 与其在泛用平台上毁损其核心经营理念，因此就算被指称很固执、也要守在可以完全掌控的独立世界中。

　　但 SONY 的前副社长，PlayStation 的生父「久多良木健」过去曾说过这段话：「PS 是对所有大众公开的美术馆，而任天堂则是山内专属的秘藏画廊」。 山内退休后，任天堂是否能继续继承了这项坚持，未来是否有可能在新主机上使用其他厂商开发的系统，就请玩家拭目以待了。

Nintendo 3DS

• Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash – Everyone’s favorite little robot is back, this time in a side-scrolling action game! In Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash, Chibi-Robo must swing his plug to whip enemies, reach far-off platforms and solve environmental puzzles, as well as collect upgrades to extend his plug for getting hard-to-reach collectibles and uncovering hidden areas. Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash will launch exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems this October.

• Chibi-Robo amiibo – Launching exclusively in a Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash bundle is a new Chibi-Robo amiibo figure. This new amiibo transforms Chibi-Robo into the all-powerful Super Chibi-Robo in certain stages in the game. In addition, players can level up this Chibi-Robo amiibo to acquire a variety of in-game collectible figures and items by saving their scores at the end of each stage. More details about this special amiibo will be revealed in the future.

• Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure – The classic Dr. Mario puzzle game play that players have grown to love over the years returns in this new game, but with the addition of a game-changing new Miracle Cure item. This cure-all item activates a variety of capsule- and virus-eradicating powers. Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure is available for pre-purchase beginning today and writes a prescription exclusively in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS on June 11.

• Bravely Second: End Layer – The sequel to Square Enix’s much-loved role-playing game Bravely Default is coming to the West. Experience a rousing fantasy adventure with new and returning characters when the game launches for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems in 2016.

• Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon – This recently revealed new installment in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series finds players becoming Pokémon to explore randomly generated dungeons in a land inhabited only by Pokémon. In addition to the 20 Pokémon players can choose to become and also pick as their partners, all 720 known Pokémon are in the game. Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon launches for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems this winter.

• LBX: Little Battlers eXperience – Just like the popular anime and toy line, LBX: Little Battlers eXperience lets players build, customize and battle robots using more than 130 models and more than 4,000 in-game parts. Up to six players can connect via local wireless to battle it out and see whose robot emerges victorious when the game launches on Aug. 21.

• Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition – Fans that have already been enjoying the wealth of content in Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition are about to get even more! In addition to two extra free unlockable worlds in both the Puzzle & Dragons Z and Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Wii U

• Splatoon – Kicking off a series of free content additions throughout the summer, Splatoon will be home to a new weapon and map … as of 7 p.m. PT today! Alongside these additions, Splatoon’s Ranked Battle mode will also become available for characters level 10 and above.

• Art Academy: Home Studio – In this new application for Wii U, artists of all skill levels can take lessons, draw inspiration from 360-degree landscape photos and share their creations with friends. Art Academy: Home Studio will even allow fellow art enthusiasts to upload time-lapse replays of their creations to their YouTube accounts. Art Academy: Home Studio is now available for pre-purchase and launches exclusively in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U on June 25. Legacy artists who already own the Art Academy: Sketchpad software can get $4 off the purchase price of Art Academy: Home Studio as a thank you for their dedication to the franchise.

• Project Treasure – A new trailer highlighting game play in this four-player co-op action game from Bandai Namco Entertainment was revealed alongside the Nintendo Direct video and can be viewed separately on YouTube. Take down enemies, evade traps and escape with spoils from the deepest of dungeons.

Wii U and Nintendo 3DS

• Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games – All of your favorite Mario and Sonic characters are ready to join the fun in Rio, host of the Olympic Games in August 2016. Take the rivalry on the road with super-charged Olympic events like Soccer and Table Tennis in the Nintendo 3DS version, or see if you’ve got what it takes to hang with the best in the Wii U version, with events like Soccer, Rugby and Beach Volleyball. More details about the games will be announced in the future.

Nintendo Activities at E3 2015

• Nintendo World Championships 2015 – Twenty-five years after the original, the Nintendo World Championships return on June 14, set to start at 3 p.m. PT, with pre-show broadcasts kicking off the day’s activities prior to the tournament. While the full lineup of games won’t be unveiled until the big event, hopeful contestants can prepare to compete in the original The Legend of Zelda, as well as a mix of other Nintendo games.

• Periscope / Snapchat – Nintendo is expanding its social media presence … right in time for E3! Fans can follow @NintendoAmerica on both Snapchat and Periscope to reveal fun behind-the-scenes content leading up to and during the video game trade show June 16-18.

任天堂出面辟谣 否认次世代游戏机「NX」将采用 Android 系统

　　日本经济新闻电子版于 6 月 1 日时曾发表一篇文章，指出相关人士透露「任天堂预计在 2016 年发表详情的新世代游乐器主机「NX」的操作系统会往搭载 Android 的方向开发」。

　　由于任天堂今年 3 月发表了与 DeNA 的合作计划，并且也宣布将参与智能型手机的开发，透露在 2017 年 3 月之前将会推出 5 款手机游戏完全新作；因此此一消息也引起海内外媒体纷纷揣测，莫非新主机真的会采用与智能型手机通用的系统？

　　然而根据日本媒体向任天堂求证，任天堂官方发言人表示：「虽然平时不会对网络上的新闻进行评论，但由于本次事件在海外也引起相当多的回响，因此在此要清楚说明。 『NX』的操作系统为 “Android” 一事并非事实」。

　　不过根据过往的纪录来看，日本经济新闻的「谣传」虽然并非每次皆命中，但仍具有一定程度的可信度。 举例来说，2012 年日经报导任天堂会于 E3 发表屏幕为 4.3 吋的新型 3DS，任天堂出面否认，但随后在 6 月 22 时发表了采用 4.88 吋屏幕的「Nintendo 3DS LL」。 虽然事实结果与报导内容不一定完全一致，不过也让人好奇是否并非巧合。

　　至今为止，任天堂皆十分坚持在自家主机上采用特有的专属规格。 以现行的家用主机 Wii U 来说，其专用光盘规格与 Blu-ray Disc 相当类似，但并非定义上的「蓝光光盘」。 假设次世代游戏机「NX」真要采用「类似」Android 系统的规格，以 Android 为基础来改造，或许并非完全不可能。 只是期待「NX」完全是一台「手机」或「平板」的玩家，可能要因此失望了。



Will Nintendo’s NX Adopt Android? Company Says ‘No’

Nintendo Co. shot down a report that said it was planning on using the Android operating system to run its top secret next-generation console, which has been codenamed “NX.”

“There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX,” a Nintendo spokesman said.

The spokesman was responding to a report in Japanese business daily the Nikkei that said Nintendo would use the Google-developed open source operating system in the console, citing people with knowledge of what’s going on at the Kyoto-based company’s headquarters.

The people said that by adopting Android it will be able to tap into a deep pool of software developers already creating programs for mobile platforms.

In addition to its wide usage in smartphones and tablets, the use of the Android operating system has expanded to areas such as TVs and wearable gadgets. The report noted that Nintendo’s current generation Wii U console, which has a touchscreen controller, alienated software developers.

While analysts could mostly see the positives of an Android-based Nintendo game console, they also said possible security issues may not mesh well with Nintendo’s strategy of appealing to non-core gaming audiences such as children, women and families.

Nintendo, which in recent years has been struggling in its videogame business, has been exploring many new avenues, including making deals to make its games available on smartphones as well as amusement parks while tapping into health-related services. Although the company has not released any concrete details about the NX, the console’s announcement earlier this year sent a signal to markets that the company’s main business is and will be the videogame business.

登场兵种高达 60 种以上！ 《圣火降魔录 if》介绍影片公开 系统与特征统整解说

　　任天堂发行，即将在 6 月 25 日上市的 N3DS 仿真角色扮演游戏《圣火降魔录 if 白夜王国 / 暗夜王国（ファイアーエムブレム if 白夜王国 / 暗夜王国）》，今（10）日在官方网站释出了游戏介绍影片和电视广告影片。

   

   

　　从本次介绍影片中，除了登场角色外，还对于能够让地形产生变化的「龙脉」以及战斗相关的重点进行解说，看的出来系统方面也相当的充实。 本介绍影片就是为之前释出的情报做总整理。

　　新重点情报方面，本作所登场的兵种将高达 “60 种”，以及 “支持对话” 依然健在。 但并没提及如同《圣火降魔录 觉醒》作中一般的 “配偶生子” 系统。

　　距离发售日还剩下两周，并且电视广告也同时公开了。 关注本作的玩家们在游戏发售前不妨先预习一下。

系列最壮阔故事！ 《神奇宝贝超不可思议的迷宫》第一波游戏介绍影片公开

　　Pokemon 制作，将于 9 月 17 日发售的 Nintendo 3DS 专用游戏软件《神奇宝贝超不可思议的迷宫（ポケモン超不思议のダンジョン）》，官方于 6 月 9 日释出了两分钟左右的第一波游戏介绍影片，供有兴趣的玩家抢先一窥游戏内容。

　　《神奇宝贝超不可思议的迷宫》Pokemon 与 Spike ‧ Chunsoft 旗下游戏《不可思议的迷宫（不思议のダンジョン）》系列的合作企画作品。 在游戏内将有着截至目前为止于《神奇宝贝（ポケットモンスター）》系列中出现，总计共 720 种的神奇宝贝登场，而能够作为主角候补的神奇宝贝则多达 20 种。

   

　　第一波游戏介绍影片中主要讲了历代《神奇宝贝》迷宫都会有的主角的问答、与搭档一同组成调查团去迷宫探险，还有能看到神奇宝贝联系图的新系统功能。
