Play Upcoming Wii U and Nintendo 3DS Games at PAX East in Boston

When planning for this year’s PAX East, make sure you add “Visit Nintendo’s booth!” to your list of important things to do – and maybe underline it as well. Nintendo is heading to PAX East from April 22 to April 24 with a ton of Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games – some publicly playable for the first time! – as well as exciting activities like a Bravely Second: End Layer developer panel and photo opportunities with everyone’s favorite pink puffball, Kirby.

Making its playable public debut, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is a stylish new Wii U role-playing game from ATLUS, developers of numerous RPG series. This energetic game features a deep battle system inspired by both the Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei series imbued with a J-Pop twist, and includes real-life locations in Tokyo. By visiting the Nintendo booth, you’ll be able to play a demo for the Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE game. When the Wii U game launches on June 24, it will also launch with a one-of-a-kind special edition available at GameStop and Amazon.com (Dubbed 'Fortissimo Edition' in Europe). The special edition contains the Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE game, a 5x8 color artbook, a six-song soundtrack CD featuring some of the game’s awesome music, six song cards and a sticker sheet at a suggested retail price of $79.99. The bundle will also contain DLC codes for all five sets of planned downloadable content. Releasing at launch, the five DLC packs contain additional quests or costumes, and will cost $1.99 each if purchased separately outside of the special edition.

Two other games that will be publicly playable for the first time are Kirby: Planet Robobot and Monster Hunter Generations, both exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. The Kirby: Planet Robobot game launches on June 10 and finds Kirby equipping powerful Robobot Armor to destroy obstacles and copy enemy abilities. The game will launch with a new line of Kirby series amiibo figures (sold separately), but the game is also compatible with all amiibo, giving Kirby fun character-specific and random Copy Abilities. Kirby himself will also be available for photos in the Nintendo booth. Launching this summer, the Monster Hunter Generations game is the next entry in the popular action RPG series. It is the most customizable Monster Hunter experience to date, and serves as a fitting tribute to the last decade of the series. Monster Hunter Generations can be played, along with Kirby: Planet Robobot, by visiting the Nintendo booth.

Also playable at the Nintendo booth is the Metroid Prime: Federation Force game. The sci-fi shooter that finds a squad of up to four players working together to combat space pirates launches exclusively for Nintendo 3DS on August 19 (September 2 in Europe).

Two upcoming Wii U games created by developing partners of Nintendo are also playable at PAX East. Axiom Verge, an acclaimed action exploration game set on an alien planet developed by Thomas Happ Games, and Tumblestone, a unique puzzler developed by The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild, will be playable at the developers’ respective booths on the show floor.

In addition to all the fun playable games, Nintendo will host a Bravely Default: End Layer panel on Sunday, April 24, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET in the Dragonfly Theatre. The panel will feature developers from Square Enix discussing the creation of the just-released role-playing game. Behind-the-scenes info, such as concept art and gameplay, will be shown, concluding with an audience Q&A. On Saturday, April 23, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. ET, the Square Enix developers will also be at the Nintendo booth to meet fans and sign autographs.

River City: Tokyo Rumble for 3DS coming to North America this summer



Natsume Announces River City: Tokyo Rumble

Natsume, a worldwide developer and publisher of family-oriented video games, announced today that it will bring River City: Tokyo Rumble to the Nintendo 3DS this summer. River City: Tokyo Rumble continues the partnership established last year with Arc System Works, who owns the River City franchise. River City: Tokyo Rumble will be one of several Natsume titles playable at E3 2016, taking place June 14th – 16th 2016 in Los Angeles.

“We know there's a loyal fanbase of the River City series in North America who have been asking for more of these addictive games to play!” said Hiro Maekawa, President & CEO of Natsume. “Whether you're a longtime River City fan or new to the series, there's plenty of side-scrolling action to love.”

Originally launched as Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun SP: Rantou Kyousoukyoku in Japan, the game is part of a long-running series of side-scrolling RPG brawlers, sports games, and more. North Americans were first introduced to the series with River City Ransom on the NES, with an updated take on the game arriving several years later on the Game Boy Advance. Multiple spinoff games, including volleyball and fighting games, have followed.

"River City its celebrating its 30th anniversary in Japan in 2016, and we're excited to be part of the celebration," said Minoru Kidooka, CEO of Arc System Works. "We're very excited to be continuing our partnership with Natsume, which included Gotcha Racing and Brave Tank Hero in 2015."

Nintendo Provides Updates on Mobile, NX and The Legend of Zelda Along With Annual Earnings

Nintendo announced a variety of updates during the earnings announcement for its full fiscal year, ended March 31. These updates included the first information about Nintendo’s next video game system, code-named NX.

“As we report the results of the last fiscal year, we also look forward to an exciting period ahead with further growth in our mobile business, new products for our dedicated video game systems and continued progress in our efforts to increase the number of consumers experiencing our IP through games, licensing and expanded entertainment,” said Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima.

Announcement highlights include:

• Miitomo: Nintendo’s first app for smartphones and tablets has already crossed 10 million unique users worldwide. The free-to-start social experience app launched in Japan on 17th March and in a variety of other countries, including the UK, on 31st March.

Along with these outstanding user numbers, Nintendo also has, to date, sparked more than 300 million conversations in Miitomo.

In addition, users can insert their Mii characters into photos to create unique “Miifotos” that can be shared through various social media. As of now, more than 20 million Miifotos have been created.
To celebrate Miitomo reaching 10 million users, Nintendo will run a special 10-day “Celebrating 10 Million Users!” promotion between 29th April and 8th May.

• Nintendo’s Next Mobile Apps: Building on the positive consumer reaction to Miitomo, Nintendo announced that its next two mobile apps would be based on the familiar and beloved Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises.

Nintendo plans to release both of these applications this autumn. As for the former app, while making it more accessible in comparison to the Fire Emblem games for Nintendo’s dedicated gaming systems, Nintendo aims to offer the great value of a role-playing strategy game. Nintendo will design the latter game so that it will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems. By playing both Animal Crossing games, users will find increased enjoyment. Both of these are pure game applications.

Compared to Miitomo, they have more prominent game elements, and the game content will tie closely into Nintendo’s dedicated games business.

Nintendo will provide more details about these applications closer to their launch period, and aims to have multiple types of apps that appeal to different audiences and different groups of players.

• NX: Nintendo previously announced that it would release more information about its next system, code-named NX, this year.

As the first announcement of any NX information, Nintendo confirmed that NX is scheduled to launch in March 2017. NX will not make an appearance at the upcoming E3 video game trade show in Los Angeles in June and will be unveiled later this year.

• The Legend of Zelda: The latest instalment in this classic series is scheduled to launch simultaneously for both Wii U and NX, and both versions of the game have been in development in tandem. Because developers need more time to polish the game, it will launch in 2017, but it will be the focus of Nintendo’s presence at E3.

• E3: Nintendo changes its approach to the show every year. This June, Nintendo will focus its attentions on the upcoming game in The Legend of Zelda series. The Wii U version of the game will be playable for the first time on the E3 show floor, and it will be the only playable game Nintendo presents at the show, in order to provide attendees a complete immersion. Additional information about Nintendo’s E3 plans will be announced in the future.

　　2013 年，法院认为任天堂侵犯原 Sony 技术人员「富田诚次郎」的专利，因而败诉。 得支付赔偿 3020 万美元的专利费用，而在来年 2014 年判决任天堂须以「每台 3DS 批发价格的 1.82%」支付权利金，另外也裁定任天堂需负担 24 万 1231 美元的诉讼费用，但是任天堂决定将会继续上诉。

　　诉讼时隔多年，根据多方媒体的报导，任天堂 3DS 裸视 3D 技术侵权案，美国纽约联邦地方法院终于在 2016 年 4 月 25 日作出裁决，宣判本次 3DS 侵权案并非事实，全案由任天堂胜诉，无须赔偿相关的专利费用。

　　任天堂表示，本案判决代表着联邦法院认定该公司的主张、并作出了适当的判决。

Let the Games Begin With Mario & Sonic at the Rio Olympic Games, Coming to Wii U on 24th June

The worlds of Mario and Sonic come together once more for 17 exciting events in Mario & Sonic at the Rio Olympic Games, arriving on Wii U across Europe on 24th June. Taking place in Rio de Janeiro, host city of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, the latest instalment of the series features over 30 playable characters, the ability to play as your Mii, and plenty of frantic four-player multiplayer action to enjoy with friends and family, including the new Duel Events, which give familiar sports a classic Mario & Sonic twist.

Rugby Sevens is one of three sports, along with Football and Beach Volleyball, that comes with its own Duel Event. The action’s powered-up, familiar items like Bullet Bills and Chaos Emeralds are allowed, and chaotic multiplayer matches are guaranteed. In Duel Events, players build up Duel Points by pulling off actions like tackling, spiking or shooting, then have to score a try, point or goal to add these Duel Points to their total score. Last-gasp turnarounds and severe drubbings on an unprecedented scale await!

Players can also vie for gold medals in classic Olympic Games events like Boxing, Archery, and the 100m sprint, using either the Wii U GamePad in single-player, or with Wii Remote button controls in multiplayer. All events take place in venues modelled after the real-life venues of the Olympic Games, bringing an authentic touch of Rio to the proceedings. Rhythm Gymnastics (with clubs) and Rugby Sevens – the latter making its debut at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games – are also playable for the first time.

Alongside the new events comes the new Heroes Showdown mode: an addition for only the most dedicated Mario and Sonic fans out there, as it’s unlocked after achieving first place or being in the winning team in all 17 player events in single-player, or by winning the Bronze Medal more than seven times in tournaments. Competitors join up with Team Mario or Team Sonic and battle it out against the other side in knockout rounds. Events are picked at random for a real test of all-around skill, and each round a character from the losing team is knocked out until either all members are knocked out, or Team Captains Mario and Sonic are eliminated, so it’s all on the line to be the last team standing.

Over 30 playable characters from the Mario and Sonic series appear, including some that are exclusive to certain events. Sporting hopefuls can put themselves in the game as their Mii, and take part in tournaments for each event. Coins and rings earned through gameplay can be used to buy additional costumes from the Mario series or Sonic series respectively.

Additional special tournaments can be accessed through the use of amiibo figures, which can be used after completing 25 tournaments. By tapping a Sonic amiibo to the Wii U GamePad, the Sonic League will begin, pitting a player’s Mii against characters from the Sonic series. Meanwhile, the Mario League can be played if any Mario amiibo is tapped, and will see players squaring off against characters from the Mushroom Kingdom. A special Mario or Sonic Mii costume will be earned for winning their respective leagues, while scanning in any other amiibo will reward the player with either coins or rings to use at the Item Stand for a chance to win additional costumes.

With 14 official Olympic Games disciplines and three Duel Events, over 30 playable characters and the ability to play as your Mii, and local multiplayer for up to four players, Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will offer everyone a chance to go for the gold when it comes to Wii U on 24th June!Screenshot

Two Beloved Video Game Franchises Collide in the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack for Minecraft: Wii U Edition

In a match made in block-shaped heaven, Nintendo is partnering with Mojang and Microsoft to bring the imaginative worlds of the Super Mario series and Minecraft together. For the first time ever, players will be able to fend off blocky Hammer Bros. and Dry Bones the same way they do Creepers and Zombies.

On May 17, the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack comes to Minecraft: Wii U Edition as a free game update. After downloading the update, players who own the Minecraft: Wii U Edition digital game, which launched last December, will have immediate access to new skins, a Super Mario-themed pre-made world and a set of Super Mario-themed music and item textures. All this new content is inspired by games in the iconic Super Mario series, such as Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. When the retail version of Minecraft: Wii U Edition launches in stores on June 17 at a suggested retail price of $29.99, the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack will be included on the disc.

“Both the Super Mario franchise and Minecraft embrace the magic of exploration and discovery,” said Steve Singer, Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Publisher & Developer Relations. “Players will have a great time adventuring and creating in this free game update that embraces the unique and memorable elements of both franchises.”

The Wii U version of Minecraft features the full game, as well as many of the most popular previously released content packs for no extra charge. Downloading the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack gives players 40 new Super Mario-themed skins, which transform the game’s characters into familiar heroes like Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach, and even troublemakers like Bowser, Wario and all seven Koopalings. All the world and item textures in the game will also be redone, providing players the opportunity to create their own Super Mario-themed locations within the world of Minecraft. While building, players will even enjoy listening to the smooth sounds of 15 pieces of music from Super Mario 64. Builders of all ages will love crafting massive new worlds using building blocks inspired by a series as accessible and recognizable as Super Mario.

Since launching in 2011, Minecraft has become a global phenomenon, selling more than 70 million games worldwide. The game places players in a massive randomly generated world, and lets them explore, harvest resources and craft anything their imaginations can conjure. The Wii U version of Minecraft features Off-TV Play, touch-screen functionality and online multiplayer.
