Pianist Mei Yi Foo wins the BBC Music Magazine Best Newcomer Award for her recording of music by Gubaidulina, Unsuk Chin and Ligeti. Composer Dai Fujikura presents the award before Mei Yi Foo performs pieces from the disc.
Phyllis Chen performing Karlheinz Essl's composition "whatever shall be" (2010) for toy piano, Dreidel, chop sticks, music box and live-electronics. It features a Dreidel which stands for the unforeseeable and a tiny music box which refers to determination. The electronics are created in realtime solely from the live input of the toy piano by employing a computer program written in Max/MSP.
The piece refers to the song "Que sera, sera" from Alfred Hitchcock's movie "The Man Who Knew Too Much".
