Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Has Sold More Than 2.8 Million Units Worldwide

Strong launches in the Americas, Europe and Australia have propelled the cumulative sales total for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS to more than 2.8 million sold worldwide. This first-ever portable installment of the game has resonated both with fans and critics, and its initial sales set Nintendo up for a strong holiday season.

To keep the momentum going, Nintendo has unveiled the launch date of the Wii U version of the fighting game. The Super Smash Bros. for Wii U game will launch in North America on Nov. 21 (December 5 in Europe, and December 6 in Japan), just in time for the heart of the holiday shopping season, at a suggested retail price of $59.99. The first wave of Nintendo’s interactive amiibo figures will launch the same day at a suggested retail price of $12.99 each. Twelve iconic Nintendo characters will be included in the first wave, with a second wave of six more figures set to launch in December.

“Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is already in the hands of more than 2.8 million people worldwide, and the road ahead looks great,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Nintendo’s holiday software lineup is more than impressive, and our amiibo figures start a new chapter in the world of Nintendo interactive entertainment. With so many great experiences available, this holiday season is going to be an amazing time to be a Nintendo fan.”

As previously announced, the first wave of amiibo includes Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby and Marth. The second wave that launches in December includes Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit and Captain Falcon.

The amiibo figures can interact wirelessly with compatible games in unique new ways, providing fresh game-play experiences and a great value for consumers. Players simply need to tap them to the Wii U GamePad controller to activate them, and some figures offer compatibility across multiple games – no additional equipment is required. Fans can buy and collect amiibo, to bring them closer to the games and characters they love. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will support amiibo when it launches on Nov. 21, and upcoming amiibo compatible games include Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Woolly World, with more to come. Mario Kart 8, available now in stores and the Nintendo eShop, will also support amiibo in the future. A software update may be necessary to use amiibo functionality for these and other amiibo compatible games in the future.

For those who want to play Super Smash Bros. for Wii U with their favorite Nintendo GameCube controller, Nintendo is introducing an adapter that lets up to four original Nintendo GameCube or WaveBird controllers work with the game. The adapter will be available at a suggested retail price of $19.99. Nintendo is also launching a standalone Nintendo GameCube controller emblazoned with the iconic Super Smash Bros. insignia at a suggested retail price of $29.99. Additionally, Nintendo is offering a special bundle that includes Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, one Nintendo GameCube controller and one adapter at a suggested retail price of $99.99. All of these items launch Nov. 21.



Never one to be overlooked, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was a critical and crowd favorite during the E3 Expo video game trade show in June. The game launches Dec. 5 at a suggested retail price of $39.99 and lets players take control of intrepid explorer Captain Toad as he sets off on adventures like exploring a haunted house or escaping a smoldering volcano. Even though Toad characters have appeared in video games since the original Super Mario Bros. game on NES, this is the first time that one of them gets top billing. The game will also support select amiibo figures in 2015.

To celebrate the recent launch of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo is holding the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS National Open Tournament in New York on Oct. 11. Featuring 16 players who won regional tournaments around the country this past weekend, the event begins at 6 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on Nintendo’s channels on Twitch and YouTube. Character customization will play an important role in the action, allowing the top 16 players to engage in unique battles showcasing everything the new game has to offer.

Themes for Nintendo 3DS Home Menu Launch today

Nintendo has released a system update for Nintendo 3DS that will add new functionality to the handheld system.

As part of today’s system update, a new Theme Shop has been added to the HOME Menu that unveils themes for Nintendo 3DS. Themes allow Nintendo 3DS and 2DS owners to personalise their systems by changing the menu background, icons and folders, and music and sound effects.

In addition to five simple colour themes provided with the update, a launch line-up of other themes are available for purchase now from the all-new Theme Shop. These include eye-catching designs for the likes of Mario, Luigi, Peach and Yoshi, while for Zelda fans a design showing the parallel worlds of Hyrule and Lorule from The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds also features. As a heads-up for budding town mayors in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, designs paying tribute to that game are set to release at the end of October as part of a weekly updated line-up.

Pokemon’s about to get real, real creepy, y’all— creepier than even Creepy Black. The Pokemon Company has collaborated with horror manga artist Junji Ito, who you may know from That One Comic About People Obsessed with People-Shaped Holes in a Mountain and every other unsettling Japanese comic you’ve seen online. The collaboration is called “Kowapoke,” or “Scarypoke.”

The Pokemon Company released one preview image in the form of a phone wallpaper, above, featuring the world’s most menacing Banette. They’re also giving t-shirts out in Japan featuring the image, for people who need more personal space, I guess.

Game Freak told us they were freaky.

Nintendo Unveils Over 50 New Features and Other Details for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Today Nintendo unleashed a deluge of information about its upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U game, including an eight-player mode, the ability to build and share custom stages and an exclusive soundtrack offer. “Super Smash Bros. fans got a full look today at the unbelievable variety of options and surprises that await them in the Wii U version of the game,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Millions of fans around the world already can’t get enough of the Nintendo 3DS game, and we want the Wii U version to build on that momentum.”

Some of the topics covered in the video include

• 8-Player Smash: In a major first for the franchise, a special mode lets eight players fight simultaneously in local multiplayer. This option appears only in the Wii U version, and lets players compete on even larger stages to accommodate all the characters.

• amiibo Figures: When a player touches an amiibo figure to the Wii U GamePad, the character joins as a “figure player.” The amiibo figures can gain levels to become stronger and add equipment as they gain experience through battling. Players can have amiibo fight one another, and amiibo will bring you presents from the battles they fight in.

• Custom Stage Creation: The touch screen of the Wii U GamePad makes it easier than ever for players to build their own stages and eventually share them with friends and other players around the world using broadband Internet access.

• Controls: Players who own the Nintendo 3DS version of the game can use their Nintendo 3DS systems to control the action on the TV screen, in addition to the many other control options available.

• Importing Fighters: Fans of the Nintendo 3DS version of the game can immediately benefit from the fruits of their smashing labors. Players can import custom Nintendo 3DS fighters to the Wii U game, along with their customized equipment, costumes and hats.

• Special Soundtrack Offer: Everyone who buys both the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. and registers both games on Club Nintendo by Jan. 13 will receive a two-disc soundtrack of music from the games.

• Mewtwo: Like the soundtrack, this series veteran fighter will be made available as free downloadable content in spring of 2015 for anyone who buys both versions of the game.

• Modes: The Wii U version of the game offers many new modes and different ways to play that keep players coming back for more:

- Smash Tour: World Smash is a fighting party game that looks like a board game. Players use items, spin a wheel and advance around the map. Up to four players can compete at once as they navigate the board and gain fighters and power-ups they can use in a final battle.

- Special Smash Mode: Players can customize battles with unique parameters.

- Coin Battles: Players compete to collect coins from other players.

- Stamina Matches: Players fight until their hit points reach zero.

- Classic Mode: One or two players fight through a series of battles and advance as long as they survive. Many random events can shake things up, and players can adjust the intensity settings. The more difficult the game, the greater the rewards.

- All-Star Mode: Like in the Nintendo 3DS version, opponents appear in chronological order. Only this time, the newest fighters appear before the older ones, and two players can battle through this mode together.

- Event Mode: One or two players take on set character- and theme-based battles. Clearing stages helps players see the way forward.

• Masterpieces: This menu gives players a peek into the past lives of some of the Super Smash Bros. characters. Players can play cut-down versions of the characters’ greatest games.

• Stages: The Wii U game offers more stages than any game in the series. The expanded Big Battlefield makes its debut in addition to the traditional Battlefield Stage. The Great Cave Offensive, based on the underground labyrinth found in Kirby games, challenges players to avoid potentially lethal danger zones – or throw their opponents into them. The Jungle Hijinxs stage, based on Donkey Kong Country Returns, lets players fight in the foreground and background. Blast barrels shoot players from front to back and vice versa.

• Tunes: The game includes hundreds of music tracks, songs and jingles that players can listen to and settings to customize what music plays during game play. Players add songs to their library by collecting CDs that appear while smashing or after completing challenges.

• Movies: When players clear Classic or All-Star modes, they’ll be treated to a brief movie featuring whichever fighter they used. Every fighter has a movie, so it’ll be a challenge to view them all.

• Ridley. Yes, Ridley: Fans have been c[禁止售卖商品]ing for Ridley to appear in a Super Smash Bros. game for a while, and now they’re getting their wish. But true to form, Ridley appears in an unexpected way. Players will find him in the Metroid series-inspired Pyrosphere stage, but he does more than just hassle players. If one player attacks Ridley enough, Ridley will join that fighter’s side and attack others. Players (including the one on Ridley’s side) can KO Ridley to earn a point toward the match result total. And if Ridley consumes enough energy, he will become Meta Ridley and all the more vicious.

• Characters: The Wii U version offers 40 characters and the use of Mii characters from the start. Each character’s moves match those found in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, so players who hone their skills in the portable game will have an edge over opponents in the console version of the game.

　　现在购买下载版后，需要在游戏机本体内输入编号才能使用。但是以后在购买时输入NNID和密码，就可以自动开始下载。

　　该机能今天开始导入乐天、友都八喜，不久后亚马逊等网站也将适用(包括美国任天堂官网上的购买)。

　　提前下载

　　预定于12月发售的《任天堂大乱斗Wii U》将会开始导入“提前下载”的新功能。在发售日前购买下载卡或下载版的情况下，可以提前下载好大部分数据。而在发售当天只需要花少量的时间下载更新数据即可开始游玩。

　　本机能年底将于年底导入Wii U，而3DS预定于明年导入。

　　Wii U已经在7月22日开始支持Suica卡付费，这也是方便小额支付的一项重要举措，通过Suica卡在Wii U上第一次体验电子购物的玩家也有不少。

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D Descends on Nintendo 3DS in 2015

During a Nintendo Direct broadcast this evening, Nintendo dropped a moon-sized reveal: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, a remake of the beloved Nintendo 64 game, is coming exclusively to Nintendo 3DS in Spring 2015, with a limited quantity software bundle, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D Special Edition, also available at launch. The Nintendo Direct broadcast also revealed new details for upcoming Wii U games like Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, while Nintendo 3DS fans were treated to a further lowdown on Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

Some of the key announcements covered in today’s Nintendo Direct include:

Wii U

• Mario Kart 8 DLC: The first pack of DLC for Mario Kart 8 launches on 13th November and includes new courses, vehicles and characters from other Nintendo games like The Legend of Zelda, F-Zero and Excitebike.

• amiibo: In addition to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, multiple games will be compatible with amiibo, including Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors in 2014, plus Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush, Yoshi’s Woolly World, and Mario Party 10 in 2015.
Following the first wave of figures launching on 28th November, amiibo functionality will be available to players in the following games:

- Mario Kart 8: When players tap Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Captain Falcon, Fox, Samus or Kirby amiibo figures to the Wii U GamePad they will receive a Mii racing suit themed to the amiibo character. Players’ Mii characters can wear these detailed suits when racing in the game.

- Hyrule Warriors: A Link amiibo figure gives players a special “Spinner” weapon in the action-packed Wii U game. Additionally, every Super Smash Bros. series amiibo figure will grant randomly selected materials, weapons or rupees in the game.

The first wave of amiibo starring characters like Mario, Link and Samus launches on 28th November, the same day as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, with the second wave of six characters hitting store shelves on 19th December.

• Splatoon: The four-on-four online multiplayer shooter also features a single-player mode, which pits a player’s squid-like character against an army of octopi equipped with an arsenal of ink weaponry. Splatoon will launch exclusively for Wii U in the second quarter of 2015.

• Xenoblade Chronicles X: In this new RPG from Monolith Soft, players embark on an epic quest in a new world. Using the city of New Los Angeles as a home base, players will embark on missions, collect items and take on requests from residents. Xenoblade Chronicles X – which features a bigger world than Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii – is planned for launch exclusively on Wii U in 2015.

• Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush: The newest game in the charming Kirby series finds the lovable pink puffball journeying through a world made of clay. Players guide Kirby along a rainbow line drawn on the GamePad’s touch screen. A new four-player multiplayer mode lets one player play as Kirby while the others control a trio of Waddle Dee characters that can collect items or carry Kirby around. Therefore, players can co-operate by allowing a player who has a Wii U GamePad to concentrate on drawing a rainbow line. Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush launches for Wii U in the second half of 2015.

• Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker: A new trailer for the game debuted during the Nintendo Direct and showed snippets of many of the 70+ stages players will encounter. It was announced today that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will now launch across all of Europe on 2nd January 2015.

• Duck Hunt takes aim!: In a new trailer, the Duck Hunt Duo were unveiled as a new challenger in both Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. In the same trailer, it was revealed Duck Hunt is coming to Wii U Virtual Console. Stay tuned for more details in the future!

Nintendo 3DS

• The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D: One of the most talked-about games in the history of The Legend of Zelda series is coming to Nintendo 3DS. Launching in Spring 2015, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D brings Link’s engrossing, spooky quest through the mysterious world of Termina to a handheld system for the first time with enhanced 3D graphics and added features for users to streamline gameplay for a more comfortable experience. Also releasing at launch, and available for pre-order from retailers in the coming days, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D Special Edition is a limited quantity software offering including a specially-designed SteelBook™, a copy of the game delivered in its standalone packaging, a Majora’s Mask pin badge, and a double-sided poster showcasing the game’s iconic art style.

• Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.: From Intelligent Systems, the creators of the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars series, comes Code Name: S.T.E.A.M, a turn-based tactical action RPG that features characters like… Abraham Lincoln? That’s right: Abraham Lincoln tasks the secret agents of S.T.E.A.M., who have steam-powered weapons at their disposal, to stop an alien invasion. Introduced today was a special character ability called Overwatch, enabling characters to save up some steam and unleash surprise attacks on enemies in their attack turn. Code Name: S.T.E.A.M releases on Nintendo 3DS in May 2015.

• Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire: A huge Pokémon adventure awaits on 28th November when both games launch in Europe on Nintendo 3DS as standalone offerings, or within hardware bundles such as Nintendo 2DS Transparent Red + Pokémon Omega Ruby and Nintendo 2DS Transparent Blue + Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. Meanwhile, owners of Pokémon X or Pokémon Y will be able to receive a very special Mythical Diancie from tomorrow. Excitingly, when players transfer Diancie into their Pokémon Omega Ruby or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire game, they can get the Mega Stone that will allow Diancie to Mega Evolve during battle.

• Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate: Launching on Nintendo 3DS in early 2015, as part of a short update today, an in-game collaboration was confirmed that will see Mario and Luigi costumes available for felyne characters in the game.

• Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal: Alongside Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for Wii U, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for Nintendo 3DS speeds its way into Europe on 21st November. At 23:00 tonight (5th November), a free demo for Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal will go live on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS in order to give fans a taste of this new take on Sonic the Hedgehog.

• Ultimate NES Remix: The NES Remix series comes to Nintendo 3DS, combining the best bits from NES Remix and NES Remix 2. The new Famicom Remix Mode offers additional challenges from the Japanese version of NES Remix, and in Speed Mario Bros., players can play through the original Super Mario Bros. ramped up to super speed. Ultimate NES Remix also features online leaderboards, allowing players to compare scores in challenges with others in their region. The nostalgic game launches for Nintendo 3DS in stores on 7th November, but will be available already at 23:00 tonight (5th November), on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS.

• Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth: With the Persona series’ first appearance on Nintendo 3DS, prepare for a first-person dungeon crawling RPG with vast mazes to explore and monsters to fight using Persona-style combat. This much-anticipated game from Atlus releases for Nintendo 3DS at retail and on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS on 28th November.

Wii U & Nintendo 3DS

• Shovel Knight: Fans can dig into this revered 8-bit style action platformer, with the game releasing at 23:00 tonight (5th November), on Nintendo eShop for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Fans who are interested in owning Shovel Knight on both systems, and have already purchased the game on either their Wii U or Nintendo 3DS, can take advantage of a price discount to buy the game on the other system. In addition, a new Shovel Knight Theme for the Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu will be available for free to users who purchase Shovel Knight on Nintendo 3DS by 13th November 2014.

• Indie games!: Nintendo’s support for indie developers continues with a host of indie games coming to both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, including the likes of SteamWorld Heist and Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. A new Indie Winter Highlights trailer aired today also teased exciting downloadable offerings such as Swords & Soldiers 2 and Affordable Space Adventures on Wii U, and Azure Striker Gunvolt and Gunman Clive 2 on Nintendo 3DS.

• Pikmin Short Movies: Last month, Shigeru Miyamoto premiered PIKMIN Short Movies, a series of animated short films he directed that take place in the Pikmin universe. At 23:00 tonight (5th November), these will be available for paid download on Nintendo eShop for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, in HD and 3D, respectively. As a supplement to the short movies, a free demo version of Pikmin 3 will also go live on Nintendo eShop for Wii U at the same time. Shigeru Miyamoto will also be making an appearance in the game’s Miiverse community soon.
