Amplitude First Gameplay Trailer, Team Multiplayer Revealed

It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to talk to you about Amplitude, but with PAX East right around the corner, and looking at the great progress we’ve been making in development, it seems like a great time to show you what we are up to.

Team Amplitude has been working feverishly to bring a sweet build of the game to PAX East, and as of this past week, we think that we nailed it. In the past few months since showing the game at PlayStation Experience, we’ve put a real focus on multiplayer, hoping to get groups battling it out at PAX East.

While we were focusing on the gameplay for Amplitude multiplayer, I started posing a question to the team: What can we do to even the playing field when pro players sit on the couch to play against new players? During a team meeting, I discussed thoughts that I had for things like “rubber-banding” and power-up distribution, and out of nowhere, Amplitude Audio Lead Pete Maguire threw out the idea of team play. TEAM PLAY!? Genius!

Team play is something we’d never done in Amplitude before, and allowing players to team up 2v2 or even 3v1 sounded like an amazing way to even the playing field without disrupting the current design. We decided to give it a shot, and after some iteration and tweaking, we are proud to say that it’s already super fun.

It’s been a really interesting challenge, balancing the gameplay carefully between casual and hardcore. We want to create a game that can be super fun in a party situation, while also being tight and sharp in a way that could potentially even appeal to the competitive gaming community. I think that we’re on the right track now that we have both the classic Free-For-All Multiplayer mode and the new Team Play mode. Time will tell, but we have a couple of months to really suss it out, playtest the crap out of it, and get some great feedback from fans.

We’re excited to showcase this brand new feature at PAX East this week. There will be a few Amplitude kiosks set up at the Harmonix booth on the show floor (#4224). We’ll be there playing the game with everyone, so stop by and check it out if you’re attending!

Speaking of Team Play and PAX, we were invited by the fine folks at Penny Arcade some weeks ago asking if they could use Amplitude as one of the games in their Omegathon tournament! They specifically asked if we had a way to whittle down teams. Luckily, we were working on the perfect feature for that, and we can’t wait to see folks go head-to-head with one another in front of a large audience Saturday morning of PAX East.

Keep an eye out for us on the PAX East floor and in the Omegathon this weekend. In the meantime, we’d like to give the PlayStation community an opportunity to check out new gameplay footage in the world premiere of our very first Amplitude gameplay trailer.

PlayStation Plus: Your March Content Update

Hi everyone! It’s that time of the month again when we update you on all the goodies coming your way courtesy of PlayStation Plus. We’re bringing you a great mix of titles this month so let’s not waste any more time and crack on with the details!

New PlayStation 4 Content for March

First up this month on PS4, Oddworld Abe's Odyssee New 'n' Tasty!. Explore ancient ruins, dodge carnivorous beasts and avoid trigger-happy hunting parties as Abe, the original Oddworld hero in this lovingly re-crafted take on PlayStation classic Abe’s Oddysee.

Once a happy floor waxer in Oddworld’s biggest meat processing plant, Abe stumbles across his boss’s secret plan to turn the factory’s slave labour force into the latest in the RuptureFarms Tasty Treats line of novelty meat snacks. Abe now has to save his own skin from the grinders even if simply escaping the flesh farm is only the start of his Oddysee.

Next up, a story of love and crossed destinies in a world torn apart. In Valiant Hearts: The Great War, the lives of all the characters are inextricably drawn together over the course of the game. Friendship, love, sacrifice, and tragedy befall each one as they help each other to retain their humanity against the horrors of war.

New PlayStation 3 Content for March

First up this month on PS3 enter the story of a young boy, Quico, and his best friend, Monster in Papo & Yo. Monster is a huge beast with razor-sharp teeth, but that doesn’t scare Quico away from playing with him. Build your friendship with Monster by solving puzzles together and adventuring through a magical, surrealist world. You will need to learn to use Monster’s emotions, both good and bad, to your advantage if you want to complete your search for a cure and save your pal.

Next up is your chance to step into the shoes of the legendary Sherlock Holmes using your detective talents to six thrilling cases including murders, missing persons, spectacular thefts and numerous investigations that sometimes lead you into the realms of the fantastic.

The great freedom of action in Sherlock Holmes Crimes & Punishments allows you to conduct your investigations in the manner you deem appropriate. Choose the leads you wish to pursue, interrogate your suspects and, from your deductions, name the guilty parties… and determine their fate wisely, as surprising consequences may arise where you least expect them.

New PS Vita Content for March

First up this month the sequel to a monster PS VITA / PS3 title which we can’t get enough of at PlayStation. OlliOlli 2: Welcome to OlliWood has a stunning new look, plucking you from the street and dropping you squarely in the middle of the big screen’s most bodacious cinematic locations.

The sequel boasts all new Ramps and Epic Hills allowing for monster air and multi-route levels. Furthermore, OlliOlli 2′s combo system has been expanded. The joy of Manuals, Reverts, Revert Manuals and Grind Switching giving you more control and expression than ever before.

Finally, CounterSpy is up for grabs. Take on the role of a spy working for the C.O.U.N.T.E.R. agency and use your espionage and combat skills to infiltrate the lairs of two global forces – each with their own dastardly plans to nuke the moon from orbit. As the warring superpowers face off in this twisted space race, jump into action to stealthily sabotage their devious schemes and maintain world peace.

Super Dungeon Bros Coming to PS4

   

Co-Op Brawler Super Dungeon Bros Coming to PS4

Hi everyone! Following on Tiny Troopers Joint Ops that launched last year on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita with cross buy and cross save, we’re now bringing our second game to PS4.

We’re partnering with award-winning developer React! Games based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, to bring you Super Dungeon Bros! Winner of the Best Social Game Award at Game Connection Europe in 2014, Super Dungeon Bros is a rock-themed, co-op dungeon brawler for teams of up to four players.

You’ll take control of a group of hard-rocking warrior bros in the ever-changing dungeons of Rökheim, facing dangerous foes, deadly obstacles, and hazardous puzzles.





Combining rock and fantasy, Super Dungeon Bros takes advantage of cross-platform multiplayer, allowing PlayStation bros to descend the darkest dungeons of Rökheim with their PC counterparts!

There will also be a totally awesome single-player campaign so bros can rock it out on their own, although we’d much rather you rock it out with other bros! We’re also creating specific daily and weekly challenges as well as dedicated leaderboards.

Just remember! No challenge is too big for the Bros as you hearken to the mantra “Bros B4 Foes!”
